John_1This week several of our members are headed hither and yon for mission trips, bringing home what we are about as Christ's Church.  We are about mission. That, from the very beginning, is what Jesus envisioned for his church - a group of people attached to him by faith and empowered by God's Spirit to be conduits of God's love and God's grace to others.

This is a mission, says Acts 1, which God calls us to live out among people who live in Jerusalem (locally) and Judea (regionally); Samaria (people of different cultures and religions living among us) and the utter most parts of the world (globally).  In the next two weeks we're going to be covering all those bases through our ongoing support and participation in local mission projects (Jerusalem),  through the group traveling to Galveston this weekend to work with RCA missionaries, Laurie and Bruce Hawley in a rebuilding effort for the poorest of our neighbors (Judea),  through a visit to our neighborhood mosque next Sunday evening to meet our Muslim neighbors as part of the Sunday evening Islam series (Samaria) and through a trip Doug VanderArk and John Weymer are making to the Sudan next week to work alongside Sudanese Christians associated with SEA Partners (the uttermost parts of the world).   This week, at least, we've got all the bases covered, and that's not to mention the support we offer to various mission projects here and abroad on a regular basis.

What we ask this week is that we make a special effort to focus on mission  not only by being alert to opportunities God may give us to "share the hope that is within us" with those we meet in our daily activities, but also by lifting up those who are participating in missions that require travel in prayer.  In all cases what we need to pray is what Jesus taught us to pray - that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  That's our mission.  That's our purpose. To live in such a way that God's will be done through us.

Blessings,
